Due to ongoing problems in the server of Bangladesh Bank, the Bangladesh Electronic Funds Transfer Network (BEFTN) service has been shut down although interbank check transactions have been re-established. As a result, the customers of the banks are not being able to transfer money from their own bank account to the account of another bank through electronic means. However, the central bank hopes that this problem will be solved by today. Monday (April 19) Bangladesh Bank spokesman Md. Sirajul Islam said, interbank check transactions have been activated among the banks, even though check clearing and RTGS services have been activated too, but there are problems in doing BEFTN. However, the concerned department of the central bank is working to solve this problem, it is hoped that it will be operational by today. On April 13, the server went down due to a disconnection of the fiber optic cable connecting the two data centers of the central bank. The commoners and businessmen are suffering due to the IT catastrophe through two of the biggest means of transactions in the financial sector. However, interbank check transactions were though reactivated on Sunday, but the Bangladesh Electronic Funds Transfer Network (BEFTN) service remained still closed.
